Family Reunion Road Trip Day 1

We left home about 10:30 pm on Thursday June 12th and drove through the night.  The kids slept pretty good on the ride.  We stopped for breakfast in Bismarck, ND and then turned south toward the Black Hills, taking the back roads most of the way.  Near Castle Rock, SD we drove by a pasture of sheep and one of them was out on the wrong side of the fence.  Bekah was lamenting the poor little thing's predicament and Scott dryly commented that the sheep could probably just jump over that tiny fence and get back in.  Bekah muttered, "What are you, a sheepologist?" and Jesse and I chuckled.  That became a running joke of the trip.

We had a picnic lunch at a wayside rest and drove through Spearfish Canyon before making our way to Crooked Creek Ranch Resort in Hill City, SD.
The windiest little wayside rest in the west!
Snacks in the truck.
Bridal Veil Falls in Spearfish Canyon
Our cabin at Crooked Creek and the first of the Wodahls to arrive.
Once we got all checked in and settled into our cabin, the crew of Wodahls that had arrived before us returned to the resort and we visited with them.  The kids were begging to swim so we had some pool time before dinner.

By then more of the family had arrived and we all hung out and visited in the pavilion and enjoyed guitar music by cousin Scott and singing along with him, cousin Kate and the whole crew. Bekah requested Sneaky Snake.  She was too shy to sit up front and sing with Scott and Kate but she said they did a good job singing it for her.  She's already planning for next time and she will be requesting Cheeseburger in Paradise!  :)
