Little American Falls Portraits

We did make it back up to Little American Falls to take the kids' pictures.  Here is Bekah on take #3:

Scott, also on Take #3:

And here we go with Alarik.  Take #1:
 Take #2:
Take #3: (third time NOT a charm as with the other two)
 Take #4:
 Take #5:
 Take #6:
 Take #7:
 Take #8:

Finally nailed it!

Then I pressed my luck and tried for a good one of all three kids together:
If only I'd realized that having his picture taken actually pained the boy, maybe I could have been more understanding.

Here it appears that I've dangled him off a cliff for a photo op and he's desperately clawing his way to safety.

 Let's try a different location:
 Closer...we almost have it!
 Uh...no.
Nope. Not happening today.  I went 3 for 4 on the shots I wanted.  I'll take that.

The Statue of Delivery

Alarik calls the Statue of Liberty the "Statue of Delivery".  I think that works too!

Country Mice in the City

I remember a book from when I was little about Country Mouse and City Mouse.  I tried to find it and there are dozens of different versions of the book.  My kids sometimes remind me of that book.

I've written before about how much Scott loves to bike in town, on the pavement.  My kids also enjoy the little bit of freedom that comes with being able to walk around town now and then.  Bekah has relished in the opportunity to walk to the convenience store with a friend and buy a treat between school and a volleyball game.
Last Thursday I had a city council meeting, Jesse had an ambulance meeting, Bekah had a volleyball game and Scott had football practice.  Bekah and Scott needed to walk to City Hall after their sports since I wasn't sure what time I would be done.  Here come my little country mice/ball players:

Of course "city" is a relative term in this instance. Our little city of 446 people hardly compares to what you'd typically consider a city.  Compared to our house in the woods though, it's enough of a contrast.

Volleyball

We had no idea Bekah would be so intense on the court!  Uncle DRK got to watch her play when they had an away game in Northome and he promptly called up Jesse to say, "Wow. Your kid can really yell."

She takes this game seriously.

Even when she is supposed to be an impartial line judge!

So far she has been enjoying the season and learning about the sport.  She has been frustrated with her serving at times since she hasn't really gotten the hang of either underhand or overhand serving.  Last week we had the first time she came home from a game in tears of frustration.  It's hard to see her struggle but I know it's just good old character building at work.  :)

Playground Time

So far I am not really liking having "big" kids.  Bekah is in 6th grade and decided to be on the volleyball team this year.  Scott is in 4th grade which means he can start puppy league football.  Even though Jesse is Scott's football coach, it still ends up being a lot of running for me and of course, Alarik has to come along for the ride.  Several nights a week we bring Scott in for football practice at 4:30 but Bekah doesn't get done with volleyball practice until 5:00.  That's not enough time to go back home, or even to my office really, but turns out it's just the right amount of time to hang out on the school playground!

Alarik has suddenly gone from always making that weird, "I AM smiling" face for pictures, to being a total poser.

So far we have not regretted the decision to wait on sending him to Kindergarten.  He likes being the big kid at daycare and he has actually been napping there several days.  He'd probably be an exhausted wreck if he were in school all day every day!

New Clothes!

I've never known a boy who liked to try on clothes as much as Alarik.  He just loves it when it's time to get out the next size bin and he will try on every single thing, exclaiming how much he either likes or doesn't like it.

Quite a while after we were done sorting through his bin of clothes for fall and winter, he was still playing with all of them.  He came in to my room in this getup and said, "Hey mom, I look like a Dad who is ready to go to work in an office."

Um...yeah, except for the whole no-pants thing!

Puppy League Jamboree

Scott has been waiting for years to play football and this is finally the year he can start. Check him out in the black shoes, black socks with the orange logo on them.

Posting the not-so-good right along with the good here:  sometimes you end up flat on your back!

He is positively LOVING football so far and Jesse (who happens to be the coach of the Puppies) says he 's doing pretty well. It's fun to watch him even though I don't always know for sure if he's doing what he's supposed to be doing.

Work, work, work

Sunday morning was for firewood:

Sunday afternoon was for helping with God's Work, Our Hands Sunday.  Our group scraped and repainted picnic tables up at Little American Falls.

And we had time to relax on the rocks when we were done.

It was such a beautiful day out.  I'm hoping to find time once the leaves change to go back up there and take the kids' portraits..
